Q: With Flu season about to start, are there any foods or supplements that I can take to protect myself?

A: The best plan is to follow a nourishing traditional diet with an emphasis on nutrient dense fats such as pastured butter & other animal fats rich in vitamin A & D, coconut oil, lacto-fermented foods (like sauerkraut) and gelatin-rich bone broth. Sugar and refined carbohydrates should be avoided since both weaken the immune response. High vitamin cod liver oil (Green Pastures or Standard Process), rich in fat-soluble vitamins, helps the immune response. A high quality Echinacea is also a great herbal extract that can support the immune system. Contact Paula for more information about immune support nutritional programs.
